Position Summary
The Master Production Scheduler is responsible for creating, maintaining, and optimizing the master production schedule to meet customer demand while maximizing manufacturing efficiency and minimizing inventory costs. This role acts as the critical bridge between Sales/Demand Planning, Purchasing, and Plant Operations, ensuring that material availability and production capacity align perfectly with business goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Schedule Development: Generate and maintain a feasible 3-to-6-month master production schedule based on demand forecasts, current order backlogs, and historical trends.
- Capacity Planning: Conduct Rough-Cut Capacity Planning (RCCP) to identify potential bottlenecks, labor shortages, or equipment constraints, and collaborate with operations managers to resolve them.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead weekly or monthly Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) alignment meetings with Sales, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Production teams to reconcile demand discrepancies.
- Inventory Management: Balance production lots and inventory levels to optimize high customer service levels while minimizing excess inventory and carrying costs.
- ERP/MRP Management: Maintain data integrity within the ERP/MRP system, including lead times, safety stocks, production rates, and bill of materials (BOM) linkages.
- Disruption Mitigation: Quickly analyze and adjust schedules in response to material shortages, machine breakdowns, or urgent, high-priority customer order changes.
- KPI Tracking: Monitor and report on key performance indicators such as Schedule Attainment, On-Time In-Full (OTIF) delivery, capacity utilization, and inventory turnover.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Experience: 3–5 years of production scheduling, planning, or material control experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced expertise in ERP/MRP software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Infor, NetSuite) and advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, data modeling). Our ERP system used is Infor CSI (Cloud Suite Industrial) / Syteline.
- Analytical Rigor: Strong mathematical and analytical skills with a proven ability to solve complex logistical puzzles.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills to handle competing priorities between Sales (who want it now) and Operations (who want efficiency).
Preferred Qualifications
- APICS / ASCM certification (CPIM—Certified in Planning and Inventory Management or CSCP—Certified Supply Chain Professional) is highly desirable.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma principles, or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Primarily an office/desk role, but requires regular time spent on the manufacturing plant floor to review production progress, understand constraints, and interface with shop floor supervisors.
